Former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs has wanted to fight one of the Klitschko brothers and he’ll get his chance on Oct. 16 when he takes on Vitali Klitschko at the O2 World Arena in Hamburg, Germany.
Klitschko the current WBC world heavyweight champion, will be defending his title for the fifth time and all sports betting odds must be favoring his side.
Vitali will have to prepare himself due to the fact that Shannon might be a big trash talker but he is one strong man. He can really throw some hard punches in there.
Shannon is a very strong competitor and during the first several rounds he is very strong and gets really ugly during those fights. So Vitali will have to really try hard to come out and fight on a strong professional level otherwise he could be in some trouble.
Shannon Briggs lost back in 1997 but came back to win three in a row.
The consensus is whoever fights against Shannon will really need to come out strong and be ready to fight and not just dance around.
Briggs told Vitali Klitschko to go ahead and look at that belt for a few more weeks but after that it will be his. It will be Shannon Briggs’ if he remains so confident and puts out a good fight.
Former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield has agreed to fight Sherman “The Tank” Williams on November 5th, 2010. The date is set shortly after Evander Holyfield turns 48 years old. The fight is expected to take place in the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit but the deal has not been finalized.
Holyfield (43-10-2, 28 KOs) has not stepped into the ring since his 8th round knockout of Francois Botha. That fight was on April 10th in Las Vegas, for a non consequential minor belt. Holyfield’s last fight before that was all the way back in 2008 when he lost a controversial decision to Nikolai Valuev in Switzerland.
Holyfield still looks to be in shape but questions will always loom about the mysterious heart condition that almost ended his career, when Holyfield was in his prime. Holyfield is hoping this fight will get him noticed by the current undisputed heavyweight champ, Vitali Klitschko.
Kevin Sanders, Holyfield’s manager said of a possible Klitschko fight “We hope to be able to fight Vitali Klitschko for the WBC belt,” Sanders said. “I have spoken already to the WBC and [president] Jose Sulaiman has already blessed it for me. I am speaking to the Klitschko people and I think they will do it.”
Williams (34-11-2, 19 KOs), is fresh off a unanimous decision loss to Manuel Charr in October but he has managed a win against one time prospect Jameel McCline. Sanders believes Williams style will make for an entertaining fight and he is hinting he may put the fight on as a pay-per-view fight.
James Kirkland, junior middleweight contender is getting out of prison ahead of schedule, Cameron Dunkin, co-manager, gave the message.
Dunkin said that the original release date of Oct. 2 has now been scheduled to Sept. 17. In April 2009, he was pleaded guilty to gun possession by a convicted felon. Dunkin said that Kirkland would be into a halfway house for six months. Because a spot at a halfway house had become available, the reason for the release came earlier than expected.
Dunkin said, “Sept. 17 is my birthday, so that’s the greatest birthday present I could have right now. I’m so happy.”
After his release, Dunkin said Kirkland, 26, intends to fight as soon as possible. The plan has already been discussed his promoter, Golden Boy. At last check, Dunkin said Kirkland weighed 173 pounds with his clothes on and would have no problem getting close to his weight class of 154 pounds once he begins serious training.
In March 2009, he has not fought since stopping Joel “Love Child” Julio in the sixth round. In May 2009, he was supposed to fight, Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton fight, but the fight was canceled because of his arrest.
For a 2003-armed robbery conviction, Kirkland was on probation when he was arrested after buying a firearm, using his own identification, at a gun show near Austin. During a traffic stop, the weapon was discovered and because Kirkland was a convicted felon, he was barred from possessing a gun, making his offense a serious one.
Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Manny Pacquiao finally go toe-to-toe in a highly anticipated boxing match July 17.
Bet on boxing star, Mayweather, Jr. is a perfect 41-0 with 25 wins by knockout. Manny Pacquiao is the first boxer in history to win seven different titles in seven different weight divisions. Any boxing fan, casual or die hard, has been dying to see the two face each other in the ring. After a March 13 fight fell through, however, the two have never fought.
The March 13 bout was supposed to take place at MGM Grand Las Vegas with each fighter scheduled to take a split of $50 million up front. The fight fell through over a conflict over Mayweather’s insistence that Pacquiao undergo Olympic-style drug testing, which can take blood samples at any time. Pacquiao refused to fight unless the drug tests were scheduled, and the fight was subsequently cancelled.
Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum is still “very optimistic” about a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao. He has reportedly reserved the date of November 13 for both the MGM Grand Las Vegas and at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, has stated that he and his fighter want to “shut (Mayweather) up” in a November 13 bout. “We’re going to fight November 13th against somebody, and me and Manny both hope that it’s Mayweather,” Roach said in a Tuesday interview with 590 AM in Toronto.
The beauty of a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight would be the lack of a clear favorite. Both fighters rank among the best of all time and a dull match would be very unlikely. Although Pacquiao took a bit of a hit with the drug testing issue, he is still right up there with Mayweather in terms of fan appreciation he has been much more aggressive in scheduling another fight with him.
UFC 115 headliners Chuck Liddell and Rich Franklin will get together Saturday June 12th for an unexpected light heavyweight battle in Vancouver, Canada. The UFC headline fight for this event was suppose to be the third fight in a trilogy between Liddell and Huntington Beach Bad Boy, Tito Ortiz.
When Ortiz bailed out of the fight, Rich Franklin gladly signed up on short notice to take his place. Ortiz and Liddell were coaching in the UFC television series, The Ultimate Fighter 11 and it was expected the two would be facing off to complete their trilogy in UFC 115. Liddell versus Franklin creates an interesting match up but it will not have the spark that a fight between Ortiz and Liddell would create.
There is speculation as to how much either fighter has left in their tank. Liddell has not fought since he was knocked out in devastating fashion by Rashad Evans in April 2009. Meanwhile, Franklin has struggled in his recent fights and has not fought in nine months since UFC 103. In UFC 103, Franklin was knocked out in the first round by a stronger, faster Vitor Belfort.
This UFC event could be an elimination card of sorts. The loser of the Liddell versus Franklin battle will most likely never fight again, at least in UFC. Also on the card is another fighter that is facing elimination from UFC. Mirko Cro Cop has performed horribly in recent UFC bouts and will be out of UFC with another poor performance.
The long awaited bout between Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather, took place this past Saturday night. After months of promotional hype, the combatants squared off in front of a capacity crowd. The MGM Grand was packed to the rafters, to witness boxing history in the making. Several celebrities and notable names were also in attendance. Although the under card left much to be desired, the world tuned in to see these legends finally face off. After weeks of trash talking, primarily by Floyd, both fighters appeared tentative and somewhat nervous. After the particulars were read, both warriors were anxiously set to do battle.
The early rounds saw Mosley take the advantage. With an array of body shots, he tested Floyd like no other fighter before. Shane also stunned Mayweather with lightning speed, and showcased his skills to near perfection. This culminated with powerful right hands in Round 2, which buckled Floyd’s knees. As Floyd went for the clinch, Shane knew he had him in trouble. Looking for the knockout, Mosley became erratic and lost his focus. Floyd barely survived the round, but quickly took control for the rest of the fight. Mayweather rebounded with impeccable speed, precise punching, and formidable offense. He captured the middle and late rounds, much to the dismay of Shane’s camp. Naazim Richardson, trainer, pleaded with Mosley to avoid getting hit. He urged Shane to box, instead of looking for the quick knockout. As the fight progressed, Floyd, sports betting favorite, was simply unstoppable.
After the smoke cleared, Floyd had won a majority decision. Leading on all 3 scorecards, Mayweather secured his undefeated streak. Mosley’s age had finally become a factor, as Floyd’s speed was simply too much. The world now waits for a possible encounter between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. For Sugar Shane, this might have been the end of an illustrious career.
Many fight fans worldwide consider Floyd Mayweather Jr. the best pound for pound fighter in the boxing game right now. His much anticipated fight with Manny Pacquiao ended up never happening due to the bickering between the two fighters over drug testing. He now has a new opponent, Shane Mosley.
Shane Mosley will be defending his welterweight title against Mayweather Jr. on May 1, 2010. Mosley has admitted to using performance enhancing drugs in the past but has agreed to the requests from the Mayweather Jr. camp for strict testing. Mosley has 5 losses on his record but many boxing fans remember some of his dominant performance in the past. He has beat the likes of Oscar De La Hoya and knocked out Fernando Vargas twice.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is undefeated and has a flamboyant style and his known for his speed and defensive abilities. He just might prove to quick and agile for Mosley during this fight and many fans think he will win this encounter. Nobody is quick to count Shane Mosley out of the fight because he does have the power and skill to compete. These two fighters will be sure to put on quite a show of boxing skills when they meet for the welterweight title. The winner of this fight might end up in the ring with Manny Pacquiao in the near future.
As Paul Kelly and Matt Veach prepare to face each other in a lightweight bout at UFC 112, they are both coming off of defeats. The event’s Under Card will be this fight. Losing two straight UFC matches greatly increases chances of being removed from the UFC, so expect a competitive fight on Saturday as Kelly and Veach literally fight for their careers.
Kelly’s third time fighting in the Lightweight division is this one. UFC betting star Kelly was a welterweight before dropping to lightweight and was a middleweight before that. He was impressive in his lightweight debut, beating black belt Rolando Delgado at UFC 99. This past November, he suffered a setback against Dennis Siver at UFC 105. Kelly was beat by Siver in a TKO with a spinning back kick.
Frank Edgar submitted Veach at his last UFC outing in December. His first loss as an MMA betting professional was this. He was impressive in his UFC debut, beating Matt Grice by TKO in the first round. The win extended his win streak to 11.
As Veach’s biggest advantage is wrestling, he will need to avoid Kelly in the stand-up in order for Veach to win. He had many impressive takedowns of Edgar in spite of losing in the second round in his last match and will look to do the same against Kelly.
Kelly is confident and would be the winner Saturday. He pointed out that Frank Edgar, a fighter not known for his submission skills submitted Veach. He has predicted that he will knock him out in the second or third round. So watch out for a big fight with your sports betting group.
When Paul Taylor and John Gunderson meet in the Under Card of UFC 112, one fighter makes his Lightweight division debut and the other looks for his first UFC victory. Paul Taylor’s 8th UFC fight, but the first since dropping from welterweight to lightweight will be this. John Gunderson will be fighting in his second UFC match.
It was November at UFC 105 when Taylor’s last fight came back. John Hathaway beat him in a unanimous decision. At 6’0”, the British fighter was not among the smallest of welterweight fighters. He dropped down to the 155-pound division because he felt he would have a bigger edge.
A MMA veteran who has spent a lot of time with the International Fight League is Gunderson. Invitation to participate in the UFC was sent to him after an impressive 5-1 stretch. His debut came in January 2010 at UFC 108 against Rafaello Oliveira. This UFC betting star lost in a unanimous decision.
A must-win for both fighters is this fight. If they lose, both fighters are at risk of being removed from UFC competition. Taylor enters the fight with a 3-4 UFC record, with all four losses taking place within his past 6 fights. Gunderson is at risk of going winless in his first two UFC fights. In the past, 0-2 has been a kiss of death for fighters.
The betting on UFC favorite is Taylor. A size advantage and more experience in the Octagon have been with him. He is also better at getting back to his feet and Gunderson lacks the wrestling skills to keep him on the canvas.
Boxing is a fighting art fought with fits between two males or females. Usually the two fighters have the same or similar weight and style of fight. Generally when a Boxing game is taking place a referee is engaged in the middle of the ring to call 2-3 munities of intervals known as ‘rounds’.
The history of boxing was illustrated in 3rd millennium BC, by the Sumerian relief carvings. There are carvings found of 2nd millennium BC Egyptian, where the carver has shown two bare fisted combaters and spectators.
